Well it seems whaling is becoming bigger and bigger in the world. What do you guys think of it? Is it acceptable? Its been going on for hundreds of years but does that make it acceptable?

I personaly don't agree with it because the suffering it causes for the animals but I can see how some people need it to survive

I hate it, it shoudln't be done. And I love animals a lot. To see an innocent such a big rare, innocent animal killed simply for money or fun is stupid. And It saddens me. Sad

How do you know that it is on the incline?

As long as it has a use, then I have no reason to be against it. If whatever they get from the whale is useful, it seems to be ok.

If the whale population goes down too far I have a problem, but as long as it doesn't dip too far, no problem here.

The problem being that there is little to no justification for it.

The blubber they use for soap, candles, wax, all that jazz can be taken from any iother source, and the meat, so I hear, tastes pretty rank.

Though I've never heard of whaling for fun either...

I think its wrong,

It should not be done,

Its of no point.

Indian groups here claim its there right, So I hope the whale comes and drowns them all.

If a company can afford to buy a wahling fleet, pay wages, buy fuel, maintain equipment, then they can very much provide a different means to an end.

Besides, whales are not the only resource on this planet, funnily enough.

But if it is a ready resource, cheap for them to do, as long as whale populations don't die too low, I see no problem.

Oh I love this attitude. Rolling Eyes

Look, just becuase this has only really just been brought to your attention via the media only recently, doesnn't mean that this hasn't been going on for a long time.

Whaling has pretty much gone on since boats have bene around.

And there haven't been that many regulations, which means over fishing, which means, that's right, the population does "die too low".

And aren't whales a protected species?

Just to put htis into some prespective, doesn't this reasoning freak peiople out?

If someone was to say "hey, there are lots of people, lets farm and kill them for products and resources that we could easily aquire from somewhere else."

There would, of course, be severe outrage. Why this is different for whales, or any other species hunted for no real specific reason (other than, say, providing "regenetive materials" for the Oil of Olay your mum uses), is somewhat bizzare.

Whaling isn't cheap.

And again, if it was cheap to make glue using the remains of human beings, would people do it?

Whoa.... that was fairly ranty...
