Whaling- For or Against?

I know that it has been going on for a long time, but being the apparent simple minded person I am, I just assumed the media made it a story because of a huge resurgence.

"And aren't whales a protected species? "

Certain species of whales are, like Blue and Humpback I do believe.

"If someone was to say "hey, there are lots of people, lets farm and kill them for products and resources that we could easily aquire from somewhere else.""

I hadn't exactly gone a deep research of the topic before I made that post. I didn't know that there were so many altrnatives to whaling. If people are going to go to the trouble of whaling, then there must be a benifit that is worth that right? That was my reasoning.

Using an example of people might be a little...odd. I would have used dogs or something, like a housepet to put it a little more in perspective.


Also, because of my lack of insite into this wonderful industry[/sarcasim]

I really did not know it was that cheap. I would assume it cheaper than any man made products would cost.
