| Sony has invented many new formats for media like the Umd, but their newest is Blu-Ray for the ps3 and dvds. Do you think people will actaually buy a new dvd player so they can play these even though the movies on this will be more expensive just for a slightly better picture? |

I think that price is still going to make the difference. Blue Ray is supposed to be way more expensive that CD-R. Price is just the thing holding many people back I would bet.
Not for a few years, not yet. |

The biggest problem will be the HD-DVD's. Which are coming. They will be comperable to the BluRay's but they won't have as much storage space.
Also, Beta was a superior format over VHS and VHS won that battle. So I guess you never know. |

| Sony just keeps trying to invent their own format, like Beta as you mentioned, but it doesn't seem to work for them. |

| Considering that standard blue ray players cos over £800 quid and PS3 does it for almost less than half that will boost sales |

That's what worries me most- The Wii. It's price is so good, and the fun to be had with the Wii may be extraordinary enough to defeat our lovely powerhouse- the PS3. In the end, more storage is always necessary, but the question is- is it good timing for the market. SEGA SATURN, etc... Better tech, but turned into a train wreck. The technology was superior, but will Sony do it right? I, personally, think they will... I'm just waiting to see if the Wii is more Race-Ready for this Holiday release than the PS3. Recent Rumors, from good sources, have been worrying me about the PS3 lately. Are they not truly ready for this launch? Why have game publishers walked away from them as of late? Why didn't I see a single PS3 game in this months game informer preview section? There have been lots over the past 2 months, but suddenly stopped?
Why?

There is no doubt that the Wii will sell it's share of consoles. Nintendo makes great games and have many fanboys.
The Ps3 is just too expensive for the average gamer. |

No casual gamer is going to consider that.
Blu-Ray is powerful and all that, but why the hell do you need HD DVD of any kind in the first place?(Aside from storage space)
I mean how much more realistic can real life look? |

| Whoever voted yes is wrong, its going to be a major pain in the arse for EVERY game to be in blue-ray format. Is it really that necessary? Just put it on 2 DVDs, it'll still be loads cheaper, I could see them doing this down the line, but why now? Sony has their heads up their arses IMHO. |

When the PS2 was in its early days many people bought it simply for its DVD player as it cost much less than a proper one |
