in the main menu enter the following on you D-pad:

UP UP DOWN DOWN LEFT RIGHT LEFT RIGHT B A then press start. you now have 30-lives with 30 continues which means 30x30

That is a classic code. Ever since it first appeared it has turned up in many other games, with slight variances.

It's called the Konami Code , it works in Metal Gear, Pro Evolution, Silent Hill too i think
