Unfortunatly, If your guarante has ended, you cant do anything, try cleaning the lense or blowing the dust off it.... otherwise, it is truly buggered and you have to get sony to replace it for £80/$100

Yup, DREs are buggery incarnate.

You need to find where your nearest Sony outlet is, and give em a ring so that they can replace you.

Clone: Prices have dropped since we got our PS2 replaced.... it should be around 20 quid now (bout 40 bucks)

Hope this helps copied off fgf

What you will need:
PhilipsScrewdriver(Normal)
PhilipsScrewdriver(Eyeglass)
Cotton balls or swabs
Rubbing alcohol
Felt tip permanent marker

First look on back of PS2. Now all the way to the right there is a Warranty sticker. Either peel it of or cut it in half. Now turn it up side down and pull out all the screw caps and remove screws. Flip it back over and lift from back and pull towards you. Be carefull cause the ribbon cable is attached to the cover. Take the cover lay it so the side with the PS2 logo is laying on ground to the right of PS2. Take the eyeglass screwdriver and remove all the screws on the top of the laser lens cover. (It is the big black square that says laser warning on a yellow sticker for the slow ones.) Now dip the cotton balls/swabs in rubing alcohol. Rub the laser lens in a circular movement for 30 second. Rub dry with dry swab and repeat in other direction. Now put a disk on and place the cover over it and test it to see if it now works. If it does reasemmble your PS2 If not then take the cover back off and the cd out. Look behind the Lens and tehre should be a little white gear. To left side of the gear there is a metal notch. Take the marker and mark wich notch it is on. Rotate it 2 or 3 ways to the left. Test it. If nothing try 2 or 3 right. Keep playing untill you have got it working and then Reasemble your PS2. Now it should work yay.

No no no.

Sticking a screwdriver into your PS2s arse is not going to help matters at all.

See what I mentioned on the sticky.

Once the old model (as in the first to be released) gets to a certain age, it DREs the whole time.

Once that happens, you need a new one Sad

The new ones (especially the silver ones) are far more reliable Smile

Apparently so.

I've been told by a lot of mates that Silver has a few tweaks here and there.

I dunno if thats true or anything, but mine has worked fine so far with no problems at all...

And they are the same price? Odd, you would think that would happen, I thought it was just the skin they used on the box, that the insides were the same.

Like I said, I dunno if its true.

Possibly just a rumour started to justify the gimmicky silver paint...
