Snowboarding is one of the best extreme spots there is. Snow, board, cold, it's all great. But what if you aren't the "extreme" kinda guy? Not a fan of cold? Well, I have a solution for you. Well, if you're into realism.
Amped is a freestyle snowboarding game that takes snowboarding to an amazing level for the Xbox. It is very realistic, and while that can be hard for beginners, it's a great experience.
Story Mode
Well, this is one of the sides the game kind of lacks. It claims to have one, in the career mode, but not really. There are no other characters other than the one you create, and that really isn't that fun. Other characters to interact with is always great, but there aren't any. The closest this game get to that is when you beat a mountain, or level. You get prizes, and small promotional things, but nothing at all that makes a real "story mode". There are different types of high scores you must beat to pass a level, like the High Score, and Media Points. Media Points are where you see small little camera hovering over certain people. If you do a trick near them, the points you earn go to your high score and the other criteria to beat a level, Media Points.
So yeah, there really isn't one.
Tricks
This is where the game becomes very fun. After you've beaten the pathetic exuse for a career mode, you have unlimited access to every mountain. This is a perfect formula for awsomeness. No goals to complete, just freestyle, like the title says. This is where the fun begins. You can do whatever you want on any drop off point you want. There are 1,000's of tricks that you can pull off, from grabs to spins to flips. Just thousands. There are also many different kinds of rail tricks, to 50-50's to nosegrinds. So this is one of the more fun parts of the game. Pulling off almost inpossible insane tricks.
Music
This game has very good music, which is a plus. As you're going down a mountain, don't you wanna listen to some great tunes? Well, you can, the songs in this game are very, very good, and won't leave you thinking that you wish you could play your own tracks. But if you are still left thinking, you can add your own tracks, and the combination of those two are a very, very nice feature. Good tracks that come with it, or your own. What could be better?
Pros and Cons
Pros
*Thousands of tricks to pull off
*Replayability
*Great music, add your own
*Several different runs per mountain, many mountains
*Customizable characters, boards, whatever you want for your boarder
*Multiplayer, you can bring up to four friends with you on the slopes
Cons
*No online at all
*Very hard for beginners to the genre
*Almost too realistic for some
*Graphics could be better
*Slow FPS on the 360
Overall
This is a game that is perfect for any snowboarding fan, and has much more gameplay than is to be expected from this old game, but it's still much fun. No online takes in down a bit, and graphics could be better.
7.5/10
