Should narcotics be legalised

I do not in any way believe that narcotics should be legal, but there may be some good reasons why you think they should. I'll rebutle with my opionions.

I think it depends entirely on the drug at hand.

I think what we over here call "Class A" drugs, so Ecstasy, Ketamine, Heroin etc, are disgusting and dangerous drugs (ecstasy not so much dangerous... but it is one i look down on). I've been to parties and see lots of kids *my age* take them. Its not cool to watch. I think control over them certainly needs to be tightened.

But drugs and the law are a tricky thing. If you overlegislate, it gets pushed underground, where it becomes nearly impossible to control. Underground drugs are deffinatley *more* dangerous than legitimised ones. For example, a dealer might cut some heroin with some drain cleaner in order to sell more and make more money. Clearly, this is not good for the consumer.

On the other hand, if the governement were to create some system where dangerous drugs like Class A could be controlled, I think everyone would benefit. Those who don't take drugs now won't start to just 'cos its legal. And those who do will be in a safe enviroment.

The government could then create a system in which they wein the users of the drugs, say by reducing their allowed dosages over time or whatever.

I think a drug like cannabis/marijiuna/dope/skunk/whatever you want to call it is a no-brainer. It should be legalised. It is a harmless drug. No one has *ever* died on it. Whereas with alcohol, all sorts of stuff goes wrong. Fights, choking on your own vomit, car crashes...

A natural growing plant isn't legal, but a man made poison is? I don't see the sense there.

i think it is probably wrong to entirely ban them but restrictions need to be put in place. If we entirely ban them it infinges on peoples rights

I know a load of people who do Cannabis and thats it. All of them are studying subjects such as law, accountancy, medicine and such. I haven't seen them turn into horrible messes who can't control themselves.

Now heroin, cocaine and the like should never be legalised. Ever.

I think that all hard drugs should be illegal. Cocaine, Heroin, Morphine, alcohol all of 'em.

But pot? I don't think so at all. It's not that much different than smoking a cigarette. You can even get similar sensations from them. Make it expensive, sure, but make it legal. There is no reason that people should be penalized for it, but drinking, which affects you 10x more is legal.

Basically, and I'm not being lazy, but pretty much everything FRD said is what I think. Honestly.
