The Simpsons Game is a bit of an eccentric game. On one end of the spectrum, the game is an unoriginal jumping platform game. At the other end of the spectrum, the game pokes fun at itself and other video games. This game is all about deriding various video games including the Grand Theft Auto franchise.

Since this is a Simpsons game, expect the game to be littered with comedic moments. Avid fans of the Simpsons will admire virtually all the facetious characters from the show to be in the game.

The storyline in the game revolves around the Simpson family. Bart comes across an instruction booklet for a game known as The Simpsons Game. Consequently, Bart and his family are now capable of uncanny abilities. When Bart realizes what he is capable of doing, he decides to wreak havoc around Springfield. Meanwhile, Marge is on a mission to veto violent video games (which is ironic because Marge herself is protesting against games in a menacing fashion).

The plot in the game is really impertinent, and it is not the focal point of this game. That is perfectly fine because the game is absolutely hilarious. For example, there is one moment in the game where the Simpson characters will enter an alternate reality. This is where the game mocks games such as Mario and Madden. The look and feel of this game oozes an episode of the Simpsons. Countless other video game parodies entail Medal of Honor, Gauntlet, Shadow of the Colossus, and Ever Quest.

The dialogue is well written for a broad audience. The jokes are intended for both gamers and Simpsons aficionados. There are even some gameplay moments where you will be experiencing a Simpsons episode from a different perspective. The witty aspects of the game does a brilliant job of masking the flaws with the gameplay.

The gameplay is about as adequate as any player would expect from a Simpsons game. There is no reason to be immensely ecstatic about the gameplay. There are glitches with the camera that need to be addressed. At times, the camera view would spin out of control for some unknown reason. This is particularly exasperating when timing a perfect jump is essential. The missions are insipid and leave many stones unturned.
There is the rudimentary item collecting and having conversations with other Simpsons characters in the game. This game is also somewhat of an enigma because of how the game is presented. The game criticizes platform jumping and those dreaded escort missions in video games; however, gamers are coerced into playing levels like that in this game. It is almost like the game developers are ridiculing other video game companies and themselves simultaneously.

There is no online multiplayer in the game, but there is a two player split screen cooperative play mode. This gameplay mechanic works perfectly because both Simpson members are mandatory in order to complete missions.

If you are playing through the game solo, then the artificial intelligence will take control of the other character. Generally speaking, the artificial intelligence makes logical decisions and does not do anything to impede your performance.

Fortunately, the game does enable gamers to swap between characters with the simple push of a button. Each character has their own distinct powers. For instance, Bart can fire his slingshot at adversaries from afar. Furthermore, he can glide with his purple cape. Homer can transform himself into an overweight ping pong ball and easily crush foes. Lisa can play her saxophone to damage opponents. Marge likes to utilize a megaphone.

The audio is superb from top to bottom. Every single line of dialogue is unbelievably pleasant to hear. The music does fit the style of the game in an impressive manner. All of the voices from the television show reprise their roles in the game.

Unluckily, the game is a fairly brief gaming experience. The Simpsons game lasts for approximately six hours. Overall, the Simpsons game has its blunders with the camera and gameplay. Nevertheless, there is no doubt that Simpsons activists will still revere this game.

Final Verdict:
7.5 out of 10

Don't waste your money buying the PS3 version. Stick with the PS2 edition. They are both the same game, but the PS2 is obviously less expensive. This game is worth a rental but not a must buy. KiddRune, the graphics are exactly like a cartoon. The game developers wanted the graphics to be like the cartoon because The Simpsons is a cartoon. I think stupid is the word that you were look for KiddRune. I find it odd that you would call something stupid when you spell the word "stooooooooooooooooooooopid." You might want to look yourself in the mirror to see who is really stupid.
